Literature Text
PAULA ROSA was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1970.
She graduated from Jean Piaget Institute, in 1998, and from Lusofona University, in 2007, both in Art and Design.
From her initial fascination for visual arts, and after exploring the wide variety of traditional media, Paula Rosa became aware of the potentialities of the digital tools in 2003. Since then, and being conscious of the importance of digital technologies and how they have been revolutionizing the arts, she began to experiment several techniques in the digital canvas.
Her work tells stories in which the action develops in three times: the past, the present and the future. From the past is recognizable the ancestral terror of death and for the unknown; the present reflects upon a decadent society divided between the material pleasure and the fear for the consequences of a self-induced apocalypse; the future, as any story meant to be continued, it's an almost certain and prominent question mark.
Embed with philosophical and psychological material, Paula Rosa's painting seems to be both a personal and social approach to current times, containing the magic of dreams, while not completely obscured by consciousness, and the magic of thought, while not entirely dominated by what's socially acceptable.
Solo shows:
2008 - Deca - Dances, ARTS glallery, Amora, Portugal
2007 - The New Digital Media in Art, Water Museum, Coimbra, Portugal
2006 - Mouse it! Seixal, Portugal
2005 - Surrealizar por aqui. Lisboa Camara Club, Lisboa, Portugal.
2004 - Vestigial Nymphs. Monastery of S. Domingos. Évora, Portugal.
2004 - Malfunctions. Seixal, Portugal
